This beautiful and ancient city
can boast the spectacular Minster as it's central feature with the quaint
cobbled streets close by, one of which is the famous "Shambles".
Walk
along the wall surrounding the city or visit the magnificent Yorvic Centre where
you can travel back in time and experience the sights, sounds and smells of the
days gone by when the Vikings had invaded and colonised the city.
York
is also the home of some excellent museums one of which is the award
winning National Railway Museum where you will find numerous exhibits from the
golden era of steam dating from the very early locomotives the wonderfully
beautiful 'Mallard' which held the world speed record for a stem train for many
years. Steam engines from this museum are quite often fired up and used to pull
'specials' all over the country as well as on the North Yorks Moors Railway at
Pickering.
